Writing the College Essay Summer Course

10:00 am - 12:00 pm
This one-week course on writing the personal statement is open only to students at Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The class will be held in person, if possible, or online, if necessary due to health concerns. During this course, students will explore how to reach their audience and learn how to become better writers—a skill they’ll use forever. We'll brainstorm possible college essay topics, take apart sample essays, write drafts, workshop with peers, and revise closely. Students will have the opportunity to conference one-on-one with Lori Kloehn, a teacher with 20 years of experience working in independent schools. At the end of the course, each student will walk away with a completed, polished personal statement. It's an excellent opportunity to take care of this challenging part of any college application!

Day 2: Organization and First Draft
Day 3: Editing and Conferencing
Day 4: Workshopping
Day 5: Polishing, Celebrating, & Supplements
This week-long course from the College Essay Writing Center will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm each day. This course may happen at Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania or will be offered online via Zoom if in-person learning is prohibited due to health concerns. This class is only available to Central Catholic students at this time.
